Campus and Community Safety
Mammoth Unified School District has partnered with local agencies to enhance safety, showing our commitment to a secure community environment and inviting your support and trust.
The system includes:
-
Flock Falcon, which captures license plates and vehicle characteristics to provide searchable information when investigating a safety incident.
-
Flock Raven, an audio-detection system designed to identify and locate possible gunfire so emergency responders can be notified quickly.
MUSD will serve as the system administrator and fiscal agent, ensuring access is limited to authorized personnel and used responsibly to protect your privacy and safety.
Privacy, Oversight, and Responsible Use
MUSD recognizes that automated license plate recognition and audio-detection technologies raise legitimate questions regarding privacy, data access, and government oversight. To address these concerns, the District is committed to implementing strict oversight measures, transparent policies, and data protection protocols to ensure responsible use and safeguard community privacy.
Under the agreement:
-
Access is limited to personnel specifically authorized by each participating agency.
-
The system may be used only for approved safety and security purposes.
-
Participating agencies must protect sensitive information and comply with applicable privacy laws and security requirements.
-
Any suspected unauthorized access or data breach must be reported to MUSD.
MUSD will maintain a current list of authorized users, conduct regular reviews, and respond openly to public questions, reinforcing our commitment to transparency and responsible oversight.
The agreement is effective from April 15, 2026, through May 2028. Each participating agency will contribute toward the cost of the system under the cost-sharing arrangement outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding.
This partnership reflects MUSD's continued commitment to providing safe learning and working environments while using public resources responsibly and maintaining appropriate safeguards for system access and information.
The full Memorandum of Understanding is available, and community members are encouraged to review it.
