Overview

Mammoth Unified School District is committed to ensuring that English Learners have the support they need to learn, achieve, and thrive. Our English Learner programs are guided by the California English Learner Roadmap, which MUSD has adopted as the framework for our district’s approach to educating English Learners.

We recognize that English Learners bring valuable linguistic, cultural, and academic strengths to our schools, while also having individual language-development and academic needs. Our goal is to provide the right support at the right time—from initial identification and English language development through academic support, progress monitoring, and ultimately reclassification.

Our work is grounded in four commitments:

  • Welcome and value every English Learner and recognize the linguistic and cultural assets students bring.

  • Provide meaningful access to rigorous, grade-level learning through effective designated and integrated English Language Development and appropriate scaffolds.

  • Build systems of support that respond to individual student needs and use data to monitor progress and adjust services.

  • Create a coherent pathway toward reclassification, graduation, and postsecondary success, ensuring that students have the English proficiency and academic preparation they need for their chosen futures.

Goal

MUSD’s goal is to provide every English Learner with timely, appropriate, and individualized support to accelerate English language development, ensure meaningful access to grade-level learning, and remove barriers to academic success. Through ongoing progress monitoring and responsive supports, we will help every EL make consistent progress toward English proficiency and successfully meet the criteria for reclassification. Reclassification is an important measure of progress—not simply an administrative endpoint—and reflects a student’s readiness to participate successfully in school without specialized EL services.
